  • The BRS has been actively engaged in recent developments affecting contract bargaining on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) following the appointment of a federal mediator.
The Transportation Department, which oversees the safety of airplanes, cars and pipelines, plans to use Google Gemini to draft new regulations. “We don’t need the perfect rule,” said DOT’s top lawyer. “We want good enough.” by Jesse Coburn
The Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen (BRS) condemns CSX Transportation’s (CSXT) decision to dismantle Operation RedBlock, the last remaining labor-management substance use referral program in the freight rail industry.
As a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen, you help keep one of America’s most critical systems safe, reliable, and moving. Your work is demanding, detail-driven, and often performed without recognition - and at American Heroes Homes & Lending (AHHL), we believe your homebuying experience should reflect the importance of what you do.
The Surface Transportation Board (STB) has rejected the proposed merger application filed by Union Pacific Railroad and Norfolk Southern Railway, finding that the submission was incomplete under applicable statutes and regulations.

In November 1977, the BRS launched a contest to name our new signal mascot. The winning choice, “Signalman Sam,” debuted in January 1978 and appeared on the cover of The Signalman’s Journal until his retirement in 1983.

In 2024, Sam received a much-needed facelift and was reintroduced as the official BRS mascot. You will see him in our publications, at local gatherings, and out in the wild as part of our sticker campaign. If you spot Sam, snap a photo and send it to info@brs.org with the subject: Signalman Sam.

    Keep your eyes peeled.
